Call for paper
The scientific committee of the "5th EPCN Conference" invites delegates to submit abstracts for the meeting, which will be held in Luxembourg from June 4th to June 8th 2012. The aim of the conference is to promote dialogue and facilitate the exchange of information and ideas between geographically diverse groups of researchers, managers and other stakeholders involved in research and practice pertaining to ponds. The scientific committee welcomes research-based as well as practice-oriented papers, from case-studies to global strategies on the following themes:
Pond ecology
- from abiotic and biological interactions to ecosystem functions
- functioning of temporary ponds
- pond typology and their uses
- seldom investigated areas and pond types
Ponds in the landscape
- ponds as stepping stones
- methods of pond landscape analysis - GIS, remote sensing
- important Areas for Ponds (IAP) - role of ponds as biological hotspots
- ecosystem services
Ponds and society
- history of pond creation and uses
- influencing and involving stakeholders
- education on functioning, value and wise use
Global change impacts on ponds
- pollution and drainage
- climate change
- biological invasions
Pond protection
- methods of ecological monitoring and quality assessment
- conservation, management and creation
- decision aids for pond users, policy and legislation
Special session of the international Pondscape project
Participants interested in presenting a paper or poster should submit an electronic abstract of no more than 600 words in English to epcn2012@lippmann.lu.
Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee of the 5th EPCN Conference. Accepted abstracts will be presented at the Conference. Abstract review notification, program scheduling and presentation format (oral or poster) will be communicated to the corresponding authors by email as soon as practicable after the submission of the abstract. The authors’ contact details provided should be for the author for correspondence. All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to this person, and they should in turn distribute it to the other co-authors.
Please note: acceptance of an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation and/or registration costs associated with the conference and no presenter fee is paid. All presenters must register for the conference as per the last announced closing date for presenters’ registration.
